All about Zacs

Buddies. Our helping hands

For: Young people that wish to volunteer (age 14-18)

Buddies work alongside our Special Needs staff team to aid those young people attending the sessions. They form friendships with these young people and help them engage in various different activities encouraging interaction with their peers and therefore improving social skills.

Our buddies are mostly young people from our main stream youth activities, but the scheme is open to all those interested in working with those with special needs. All our buddies receive an induction as well as on-going training.

In 2005 our Buddies were North-west finalists in the Nationwide Award for Voluntary Endeavour, and one of our Buddies went to the National Finals in London.

Zacs can help with...

Alcohol abuse

Our alcohol-free Youth bar provides an enjoyable alternative, plus we provide advise on the dangers of excessive drinking.

Drug abuse

We regularly run drug awareness workshops at Zacs. Smoking is banned in the building and is discouraged.

Anger

Frustrated teens get angry like anyone else. Our anger management classes have been very successful.

Relationships

When needed, we try to help children overcome trauma caused by family troubles.

Employment

We advise our older teens on employment options and help them prepare for job interviews.

Special Needs

Zac's provides a unique social venue for children with physical and/or learning difficulties.

The Law

If teenagers are in trouble with the law, we'll try to help them deal with any court cases in tandem with our efforts to reform their behaviour.
