Over the past few months one of the highlights at Zac's has been the involvement of young people in revamping a room for the one-2-one work. They designed the room to include private rooms created using sound proofed glass partitions, enabling them to have confidential meetings yet at the same time be seen and allowing us to maintain work within our child protection policy.
They also incorporated a relaxation area and an area for computers, intended to help them access information, complete homework and also allow them to make use of the facilities beyond the time of their appointment.
A group of the young people made a successful bid to the Bolton's Youth Capital Fund Cash Panel, receiving £5,000 which paid for decorating supplies, flooring and the glass partitions. They made an excellent job of decorating the room themselves and a few smaller grants enabled us to install computers and buy some furniture. Some of the young people later took a display showing the work they had done in the room to Bolton Town Hall and won an additional cash award for their achievement. This money was used to buy sofas in the one-2-one relaxation area.
The room is now being well used and we are looking forward to helping more young people with this wonderful resource.
